GROWING UP
Harry Reid was born in a small town called Searchlight located in Nevada, on December 2, 1939.Searchlight is known as a small mining town. He was the son of Inez Orena and Harry Vincent Reid, and the brother of three other men. Harry attended an Elementary and Middle School in Searchlight. This school had eight grades but only one teacher. Harry grew up in a humble household learning to work hard everyday. He learned the notion of hard work through his father that was a miner but unfortunately, Harry's father committed suicide in 1972. Since Spotlight had no high schools, Harry moved to Henderson, Nevada with relatives in order to attend a nearby school and continue his education. He also participated in a few sports, boxing and football. Once he graduated, Harry got into Utah State University and there he also graduated but this time with a Political Science and History degree. After, Harry also attended George Washington University were he received a degree in Law. |
_FamilyHarry married his high school sweat heart, Landra Gould, in 1959. By 1961 they had their first daughter, Lana, followed by four sons, Rory, Leif, Josh, and Key.

Current & Previous Elected OfficesHarry first joined the House of Reps. in 1982. After his term in 1986, he won a seat in the U.S. Senate. From 1999-2005 Reid was known as the Senate Democratic Whip. And ever since Harry Reid has been re-elected year after year. He has stated that he will not be running in the re-election of 2016.

Other EmploymentsWhile attending college Reid worked as a U.S. Capitol Police Officer to be able to support his family. But once he graduated he didn't stop his hard work. He has worked as a lawyer, Government Official, and U.S. Representative.
